A Holiday in Cyprus-Diary Entry

ree

This morning, when I woke up and glanced out the bedroom window, I saw stunning palm trees laden with lush dates in a lovely golden, cadmium yellow hue.

The sky was a magnificent blue, completely clear of clouds.

In the distance I could see the sea, which was a gorgeous azure blue and of course the sun was shining brightly like a glowing ball in the sky.

It was time to prepare breakfast and set it on the table on the balcony, where there were some delightful, cozy chairs.

My friend and I enjoyed yogurt with fruit and a refreshing iced coffee.

We had a lovely chat over breakfast and had decided to go for a lovely walk around “Kato, Paphos, Archeological Park”, which was down by the harbour.

We went up to the museum entrance, which was where we collected our tickets.

The entrance hall had a wonderful model in white, showing what Kato, Paphos would have looked like many centuries ago.

There were also a lot of great photographs of the site.

As we ascended the steps to the site, we were greeted by a stunning view of the various buildings and columns. The entire site was expansive, and navigating it in the heat required a long walk, yet it appeared magnificent.

We were both eager to explore the numerous buildings and exhibits. History and archaeology are two of my favourite interests, so I seize any opportunity to experience something historical while on vacation.

There were covered areas of the many mosaics that were still in very good condition.

There was an audio guide and large boards where you could read the stories of what had been depicted in the mosaics of the various events that had happened back in history.

We took many photographs and saw some fantastic stones, walls, columns, roman pavements, inscriptions and parts of buildings/ruins.

At the far end there was a fabulous lighthouse from the past.

Again, we took many photographs.

We spent several hours at the site, and when we left, we were quite tired.

However, we had an interesting and enjoyable experience and would gladly return, though preferably on a cooler day.

We thought we deserved a small indulgence, so we visited a local ice cream shop and opted for a 'double Gelato,' which was amazing.

had a blackcurrant and lemon Ice cream, while I chose mint chocolate and pistachio, which was delightful—really cold and delicious.

Exactly what we needed!

Later, we returned to our apartment and prepared a delightful evening meal of 'sausage savory' with pasta, one of my favorite dishes and a family recipe, handed down from my Grandmother to my Mother, and now to my Brother and me.

Despite the adaptations we've made over the years, it still tastes like home and is rich with nostalgia. We enjoyed a pleasant evening after our intriguingly wonderful day.

We are really looking forward for our trip out tomorrow ……

The Baths of Aphrodite.

Have you ever been?
