Language Learning Tips

  1. It sounds cliché, but honestly, practice makes perfect. When learning a new language, it's good to practice as much as possible. We appreciate it can be hard to find the time. At home, you naturally speak in your native language; maybe at work, you have to as well. However, what about those in-between times? If you're on your break, try to practice with colleagues. When you go to the supermarket, chat with the store assistants in English. Maybe you're going out to dinner with friends; try speaking in English for part of the evening. Do you have children? When you do the school pick-up, try speaking with the teachers and other parents. Any chance you get is an opportunity for you. It helps to build your confidence and expand your vocabulary.

  1. We get it, confidence is a huge part of learning a language and we are often afraid to get it wrong. Don't forget, making mistakes is how we learn and it's ok to ask for help. You may be surprised by the results.

  1. Something fun you can do to help you learn is to watch your favourite movies and read your favourite books. However, this time, watch or read in English. Try something that you know well, a story that is simple to follow, it really helps. When it comes to watching movies in English, we recommend using subtitles in English too. This helps you to keep focused. Give it a go, it really works and hey, who doesn't love watching movies?

  2. Having a 'word of the day', is another great trick for learning languages fast. This is a new word, maybe a word you heard in a movie, read in a book or learnt in your English class. Write the word down, write the meaning, write it in some sentences and use it in conversation. For one day, use that new word as much as you can. You can also check out our social media posts, where we share a new word every week. Follow us on Instagram and Tik Tok.
